You probably think of fast surfboards, colourful flowers in a wreath around your neck, a gentle breeze in your hair and sand between your toes when you think of Hawaii. Let’s add an important detail to your thoughts: Kona coffee.

What is Kona coffee?

Kona coffee is a variety of Arabica bean grown in Hawaii. Exactly in the Kona district north and south of Kailua-Kona in Hawaii. It’s only coffee grown in this area that’s called Kona coffee – just like you know it with champagne from, well, the Champagne region. Other coffees from the state are simply called Hawaiian coffee.

Kona coffee has a very strong flavour and aroma, and is actually a bit of a rarity as it is not produced industrially.
