What is flowering?

A coffee tree, also known as a coffee bush, blooms with small white flowers that then become the coffee berry itself, which is the size of a cherry. The berries are yellow or red. It’s inside these berries that you’ll find coffee beans. A coffee tree starts flowering on average three to four years after planting.

At higher temperatures, flowers and berries develop faster. Too high a temperature will result in the berries not being allowed to develop the complex taste that coffee consists of.

Here is also the reason why quality coffee is primarily grown in the mountains. Here the temperature conditions are more stable and cooler, and the coffee makes peace and quiet develop. Therefore, it is also more expensive to produce. With climate change (link), coffee trees must be moved higher up. If temperatures continue to rise, coffee farmers will eventually run out of space.
